The Village Family Service Center, a multi-state, multi-location nonprofit based in Fargo, N.D., seeks a president and CEO who will propel the organization toward its vision of being the region's preferred provider of exceptional behavioral health services.

The Village improves the lives of tens of thousands of individuals and families every year through mental health counseling, addiction treatment, adoption, financial counseling, employee assistance programs, mentoring, and more. It has a 127-year history of helping kids and families, and continues to grow and evolve as a cutting-edge behavioral health services provider.

The president and CEO has overall accountability, responsibility, and authority for the management and operations of The Village, with the support of a senior leadership team. This position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

Transparency in operations allows the organization to provide the best possible care for clients and engenders the public's trust. The ideal candidate will have an unwavering focus on quality and improvement, and will engage in data-driven program evaluation, display strong financial skills, inspire organizational courage, and have a strong commitment to engaging with staff. S/he will provide leadership and direction to individuals and programs, so they may contribute positively to the mission of The Village. The CEO serves as the face of the organization, and participates in its fundraising and development efforts.


  • Direct the development and implementation of the organization's strategic plan
  • Develop an annual business plan
  • Direct the preparation of the annual budget
  • Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial information, reporting and disclosing requirements, internal controls, and management information systems
  • Mentor, supervise, and evaluate performance of senior leadership team
  • Communicate in an effective and timely manner with the Board, and attend Board, Committee, and Task Force meetings
  • Communicate in a regular and effective manner with all Village staff members
  • Establish professional relationships and collaborate with community partners and stakeholders

Requirements include:

  • Transparent and high-integrity leadership
  • Strong communication skills and emotional intelligence (EQ)
  • Ability to adapt to changing environments
  • Proven track record of team leadership, organizational skills, progressive and sustainable growth, and strong financial performance
  • Minimum 3 to 5 years professional experience; history in behavioral health, healthcare, and/or social services preferred
  • Undergraduate and advanced/professional degree required
